Instagram Giveaway Statistics 2026

Updated 2026-09-26 · Data from 7,674 giveaways drawn on The Pick Is Right, 2026-04-30 to 2026-09-26

Most published "giveaway statistics" are recycled marketing claims. These numbers come from 7,674 real Instagram giveaway draws and 2,822,082 comments processed by The Pick Is Right. They show how big typical giveaways actually are, how people enter, which rules hosts set, and how many entrants break those rules. Every figure is aggregated; no individual accounts or posts are identified.

What the data shows

Most Instagram giveaways are small. The median giveaway post had 106 comments; 75% had 183 or fewer and 90% had 424 or fewer. Only 1.3% passed 5,000 comments.

People enter more than once. The median giveaway had 1.94 comments per unique commenter, and in 59.2% of giveaways the average entrant commented at least 1.5 times — usually one comment per friend tagged. Count people, not comments, when you judge how a giveaway performed.

"Follow" is the near-universal rule. 94.5% of giveaways required a follow, 85.7% required tagging friends, 51.6% required a like, and 3.4% required a keyword or hashtag. Only 1.7% had no rules at all.

A few entrants skip the follow — enough to matter. In giveaways where every entrant was checked, the median share who didn't follow the required account(s) was 4.3% (3,576 giveaways), and 4.7% didn't like the post (1,978 giveaways). With a random draw, that's roughly a 1-in-23 chance of picking a winner who broke the follow rule if nobody checks.

Instagram's comment count runs high. On posts with 50+ comments, the median share of the displayed comment count that Instagram actually served was 95.7% (5,876 posts). The gap is mostly comments Instagram hides as spam or from deleted and restricted accounts; no picker can read those.

Tag rules are usually met. When a giveaway required tagging friends, the median share of comments that met the tag count was 97.9% (6,578 giveaways).

Methodology

Source: every completed giveaway on thepickisright.com between 2026-04-30 and 2026-09-26 (7,674 draws, 2,822,082 comments). Posts with zero retrievable comments are excluded. Hosts are mostly small businesses and creators who found the site through search, so very large brand giveaways are under-represented.

Follow and like failure rates only include giveaways where every entrant was checked (smaller giveaways; larger ones verify candidates until enough winners qualify) and at least 20 unique entrants took part, and exclude runs where Instagram limited the like or follower data. "Comments per commenter" counts all comments on the post, including replies. Medians are used throughout because a few very large giveaways skew averages. Draw day is in UTC.
